Your Wednesday waiver news
On Wednesday, the Minnesota Wild placed forward Michael Milne on waivers for purpose of assignment to their AHL farm club in Iowa.
But not so fast. Almost as soon as Milne landed on the wire, fans and pundits linked him to another Western conference club that could claim him off before tomorrow’s deadline.
The Vancouver Canucks are 11 games into the season, with a 5-6 record that ranks 25th overall in the league. The growing list of injuries has undoubtedly been a factor for their struggles out of the gate.
Conor Garland exited Tuesday’s game against the New York Rangers and will not be on the Canucks upcoming three-game road trip. In all, a total of eight Canucks are currently injured. See who, along with their timelines from the club:
1. Quinn Hughes (lower body, day-to-day): Injured Oct. 24 against Montreal Canadiens
2. Filip Chytil (undisclosed, no timeline): Injured Oct. 19 against Washington Capitals
3. Jonathan Lekkerimaki (undisclosed, expected back in two weeks). Injured Oct. 19 against the Washington Capitals
4. Teddy Blueger (lower-body, day-to-day): Injured Oct. 19 against Washington Capitals
5. Nils Höglander (ankle, expected back in 4-6 weeks): Injured Sept. 24 against Calgary Flames
6. Derek Forbort (undisclosed, no timeline): Injured Oct. 11 against the Edmonton Oilers
7. Victor Mancini (upper body, day-to-day): Injured Oct. 25 against the Edmonton Oilers
8. Conor Garland (unspecified, out for at least one week): Injured Oct. 29 against New York Rangers.
And so many believe the Canucks will claim Milne and the Wild will lose him to Vancouver.
Plus, the kid is from Abbotsford BC. He may be coming home.
We will find out tomorrow. Milne was resigned this summer by the Wild to a one-year, two-way contract. Milne, 22, appeared in one NHL game for the Wild during the 2024-25 season. He played 6:34 of ice time and had three hits in a game against the Dallas Stars.
