Youngest general manager in NHL history expected to be announced tomorrow.

One National Hockey League team appears poised to take a major gamble on a 26 year old as the next general manager of their franchise.

According to a report from ESPN's Craig Custance, the Arizona Coyotes will be promoting current assistant general manager John Chayka to the general manager position after an extensive search to replace recently fired general manager Don Maloney.

Custance is reporting that the announcement will be made at a press conference on Thursday, and if it is indeed official Chayka would become the youngest general manager in National Hockey League history by a considerable margin. Former Maple Leafs general manager Gord Stellick is currently the youngest ever  having been named GM in 1988 at 30 years old.

Chayka made his reputation as one of the minds behind analytics firm Stathletes, Inc. and his hire would be just one more just one more example of how NHL teams are placing more and more value in advanced statistics.
