Your Call: Should the Rangers sign Cody Franson?

Just weeks away from the opening of training camp and the NHL preseason and 30-year-old former 30+ point NHL defenseman Cody Franson remains without a contract for the 2017-18 season. The big blue liner with a heavy shot has been linked to the New York Rangers since mid-July, but despite the team’s need for quality defenders, Franson is still on the outside looking in.

Is he going to sign with the Rangers? Should he sign with the Rangers? There’s no denying that Franson has had a rough couple seasons with the Buffalo Sabres. The 6’5”, 234 lb defender put up just three goals and 19 points in 68 games with the Sabres in 2016-17 and fared even worse with just 17 points in 2015-16. Prior to that however he was a regular 30+ point player with the Toronto Maple Leafs

Despite his perceived drop off in Buffalo, Franson actually led the Sabres last year in five-on-five points per game amongst defenseman and was one of the few Sabres players with positive possession metrics. Can he rekindle some of his offense in New York and help plug some holes on the team’s back end?

What do you think? Should the Rangers sign Cody Franson?
