Your call: what should the Leafs do with James van Riemsdyk?
Keystone Press

Toronto Maple Leafs forward James Van Riemsdyk has been involved in many trade rumors over the last two seasons, and it's no different this year. The 28-year old American, acquired by the Leafs from the Philadelphia Flyers in 2012, is having a good season so far, as he scored 12 goals and added seven assists for 19 total points in 24 games. He will become a unrestricted free agent at the end of the year.

Van Riemsdyk had his best season offensively last year, as he scored 29 goals and added 33 assists for 62 points in 82 games. He reached the 30-goal mark once, when he scored 30 goals 2013-2014. The Leafs are involved in trade talks for acquiring a defenseman, and many believe that if they decide to trade JVR, they could land a top four, and maybe a top 2 defenseman in return. The tricky part is that Van Riemsdyk has a modified trade clause, involving a list of 10 teams where he would agree to be traded to.

Drafted second overall by the Flyers in 2007, the Middletown, New Jersey native registered 358 points in 552 games played in the NHL. He added 25 points in 52  playoff games.

What do you think, Leafs fans? What can they get if they decide to trade JVR?
