The Nashville Predators are expected to announce the next captain in team history later today at a press conference slated for this afternoon. From the moment former captain Mike Fisher announced his retirement earlier this offseason, Preds fans have been speculating on who might wear the “C” in Smashville moving forward.

Roman Josi? P.K. Subban? Ryan Ellis? Ryan Johansen? These are the most likely candidates, but so far nothing the Preds staff has done or said has led anyone to any premature conclusions. Josi certainly seems to be the odds on favourite given that he’s the most veteran of the candidates and has been with the team the longest. But, what about Subban? The electric blue liner is a true leader on and off the ice and would likely relish the role as the team’s unquestioned leader. Or, what about a more subdued choice like Ryan Ellis or Ryan Johansen? The “lead by example” type of captain has been successful with many teams throughout the years, would the Preds be wise to go this route with either of the two Ryans?

We’ll just have to wait and see which direction the team decides to go in. But, for now, who’s your choice? Who should be the next captain of the Nashville Predators?
