Zach Hyman explains the moment he realized he was going to be out for the Stanley Cup Final

“I kind of broke down. It was hard, I was emotional.”

The Edmonton Oilers continue their pursuit of a Stanley Cup championship this Wednesday when they take on the Florida Panthers in Game 1 of their 2024 rematch.

But when the blue and copper hit the ice this time they'll do so without the services of Zach Hyman. The fan favorite was injured in the Oilers' victory over the Dallas Stars last series and had to have surgery to correct an upper body injury. His recovery protocol means that he'll miss the balance of the Stanley Cup Final and won't be available to play until next season.

Hyman was on the Spittin' Chiclets podcast with former NHLers Ryan Whitney, Paul Bissonnette and Keith Yandle today where he explained the emotions he went through when he got the news he'd be out for the rest of the playoffs.

Check it out:

You've got to feel for this guy. He's the definition of a gamer. You know that if he could play, he'd be on the ice in an instant.
