It appears the Boston Bruins will be forced to begin the 2015-16 season without their workhorse on the blueline.
Boston Bruins captain Zdeno Chara will miss Thursday's season opener against the Winnipeg Jets due to his nagging upper-body injury.
Bruins head coach Claude Julien confirmed Chara's absence after the morning skate on Thursday.
Chara suffered the injury during a preseason game against the New York Rangers. Chara collided with forward Ryan Bourque on an innocent enough looking play and was limited to only one exhibition contest as a result of the injury.
This is unfortunate news as the Bruins are already without Dennis Seidenberg and can ill afford to lose Chara for an extended length of time.
The 38-year-old registered 20 points in 63 games last season.
