An emotional moment this weekend as Chara officially ends his hockey career.
Although it has been many years since he last played in the National Hockey League, his last appearance coming back during the 2022 Stanley Cup Playoffs as a member of the New York Islanders, it wouldn't be until this week that defenseman Zdeno Chara would officially hang up his skates.
On Friday, Chara was the star of an event that was billed as "Zee's Last Shift" a celebration of Chara's legendary career as a hockey player and a way for Chara to give his thanks and say farewell to all the coaches, teammates, and fans who supported him throughout his career.
Chara was surrounded by his family during the event and by all accounts it proved to be a huge success, but it will be the final moment of the event that fans will be talking about for years to come. In a perfect symbolic gesture to officially end his career, Chara would remove his skates on the ice and left them there as he walked off towards the next chapter of his life with one of his young sons around each one of his arms.
It was a beautiful moment and one you shouldn't miss if you were fan of Chara during his time in the NHL:
