A'ja Wilson inks the biggest contract in WNBA history

The WNBA's most dominant player is staying put. A'ja Wilson, the league's first-ever four-time Most Valuable Player, has agreed to a three-year, $5 million supermax deal with the Las Vegas Aces, making it the largest contract in WNBA history.

The fully guaranteed agreement was brokered by her agent Jade-Li English of Klutch Sports Group, and while the Aces publicly confirmed the signing, they chose not to reveal the financial specifics.

Wilson's salary for the upcoming season will sit at $1.4 million under the terms of the league's new collective bargaining agreement. That figure is set to rise over the following two years, as her compensation will be pegged at 20% of the team's salary cap — a number that will grow thanks to the WNBA's recently implemented revenue-sharing model. Indiana Fever guard Kelsey Mitchell is the only other player currently on a supermax deal, though hers covers just a single season.

A Dynasty Defender Who Never Wanted to Leave

Wilson's commitment was hardly a surprise to those paying attention. Speaking at a USA Basketball national team training camp just days before the deal became official, the 29-year-old made her intentions unmistakably clear. She declared her love for Las Vegas and said she had no interest in departing the only franchise she has ever called home across her eight professional seasons. Her focus, she explained, was on defending the championship the Aces captured in 2025 and continuing to grow both as a leader and a player.

Her loyalty carries enormous on-court implications. With Wilson locked in, Las Vegas now retains players responsible for roughly 90% of the scoring output from last season's title-winning squad — approximately 75.5 of the team's 83.6 points per game. That kind of continuity is rare in professional sports and positions the Aces as a formidable force heading into the new campaign.

Aces president and general manager Nikki Fargas praised Wilson as a singular talent who has elevated the entire franchise. Fargas highlighted not only Wilson's record-shattering accomplishments but also the confidence, authenticity, and grace with which she has achieved them.

A Resume Unlike Any Other in Basketball

Wilson's 2025 season alone cemented her place among the greatest basketball players — male or female — in history. She became the first player in either the WNBA or NBA to sweep the scoring title, MVP award, Defensive Player of the Year honor, and Finals MVP recognition in a single campaign. Her stat line was staggering: 23.4 points, 10.2 rebounds, 3.1 assists, 2.3 blocks, and 1.6 steals per game on 50.5% shooting from the field.

That championship run was actually her third with Las Vegas. Selected first overall in the 2018 draft, Wilson powered the Aces to their inaugural franchise title in 2022 and then helped them go back-to-back in 2023, earning Finals MVP honors in the process. Her trophy case also includes seven WNBA All-Star selections, five First Team nods, and four appearances on the All-Defensive First Team.

Before her professional career, Wilson was a collegiate star under legendary coach Dawn Staley at South Carolina, where she helped the Gamecocks capture the NCAA championship in 2017. On the international stage, she has twice stood atop the Olympic podium with Team USA, winning gold at both the 2021 Tokyo Games and the 2024 Paris Olympics.

With the richest contract in league history now secured, Wilson's continued presence in Las Vegas sends a powerful signal about the Aces' ambitions.
