Father speaks out after Philly Karen stole from his son.
The fiasco surrounding the now notorious "Philly Karen" has taken the sports world by storm, with hundreds of thousands of fans chiming in and sharing their opinion on what was quite frankly a disgraceful event.
If you somehow haven't seen the original video by now, controversy erupted during a Major League Baseball game between the Philadelphia Phillies and Miami Marlins when a woman lost her cool over a baseball that flew into the crowd. The ball was initially recovered by a man who quickly handed it over to his child, but the woman, now known as the "Philly Karen," quickly came over and began screaming at the man who had retrieved the ball. She did so until the man relented and handed her the ball, resulting in the fans in her section showering her with boos.
Here's a look at the original incident:
And the boos from fans in attendance that followed:
Now for the first time the father that found himself at the center of the controversy is speaking out and explaining his decision to hand the ball back to the woman in question.
"I didn't even see her walk up," admitted Drew Feltwell. "As she reached for my arm she just yelled in my ear 'That's my ball' super loud and I just jumped out of my skin."
The woman continued to berate him over and over again with Feltwell explaining that the woman claimed that the ball had landed on her seat. So why you might ask did he give the ball up? Well according to Feltwell he started to lose his cool and felt that he had to set the right example for his young son Lincoln.
"I had a fork in the road," admitted Feltwell. "Either do something I was probably gonna regret or be Dad and show him how to deescalate a situation, so that's where I went."
To no one's surprise, the young man in question wasn't very happy about how the whole thing played out either.
"I wasn't very happy that we had to give it to her," admitted Lincoln when asked about giving up the ball.
You can hear the full comments from the family in the video below. Something tells me we haven't heard the last of this story.
