A scary scene has unfolded during the Winter Olympic Games in Milan, Italy on Sunday morning.

American skier Lindsey Vonn appears to have been seriously injured during an Olympic event on Sunday when she took a hard fall shortly after coming out of the gate for her portion of the event. Vonn seemed to be skiing well leading up to the fall, but at one point she lost her balance and slammed hard into the snow where she would remain for several long moments. She could be heard yelling and screaming on the live broadcast, something that indicates she was in a good deal of pain as a result of the fall.

Here is video of the fall:

Here it is again in slow motion:

Vonn appeared to be disoriented or unable to move for some other reason as she lay there on the snow for several moments, but she has since been airlifted to hospital where she will be treated for her injuries.

Vonn was dealing with a completely torn ACL at the time of this incident and there were many who had expressed prior to the event that she should not be competing under the circumstances. To her credit Vonn tried to grit it out, something that hockey fans can certainly appreciate, but unfortunately in this case it seems to have cost her terribly.

You can see footage of her being lifted out by helicopter below:

Vonn became something of a household name in the hockey community for several years during her high profile and public relationship with former National Hockey League star P.K. Subban, although the couple has long since gone their separate ways.

I hope she can make a full and speedy recovery from what are hopefully relatively minor injuries.
