For hockey fans it can often seem like no matter what city you're in or what team has come to town to play your favorite team, it somehow is always socially acceptable in hockey circles to hate on the Toronto Maple Leafs.

As arguably the biggest hockey team and the biggest hockey market in the world, the Maple Leafs often find themselves the butt of the joke or the punching bag when it comes to rival fan bases. It feels like it has become increasingly popular to poke fun at the Leafs and we have seen the likes of Florida Panthers star forward Brad Marchand turn poking fun at the Leafs into something of an art form.

It's one thing however when it comes from within the sport of hockey, and another matter entirely when it extends outside of hockey and into other aspects of the sporting world.

On Saturday we were treated to an example of that when Toronto's own Jackie Redmond had a chance to catch up with the WWE's World Heavyweight Champion, CM Punk. Punk and Redmond were discussing the upcoming event when, clearly encouraged by her presence on the desk, Punk decided to take an unprompted jab at her hometown Maple Leafs.

"I'm more excited to see who gets thrown out first," said Punk. "Who is going to leave the ring faster than Mitch Marner left Toronto, that is what I wanna know."

The jab at the Maple Leafs came completely out of left field and even seemed to catch Redmond by surprise who took to social media after the moment to call out Punk as a Maple Leafs hater.

"The man NEVER lets up. He’s OBSESSED with the Leafs," wrote Redmond on X.

Punk is of course himself a huge hockey fan and can often be seen attending the games of his beloved Chicago Blackhawks. It seems that like many other hockey fans, Punk has made it something of a tradition to poke fun at the Maple Leafs every chance he gets.
