Often times people will refer to Sidney Crosby as unquestionably the greatest hockey player in the world. We feel like those people are flat out wrong, and we'd like the opportunity to show you why. We'll get to Crosby himself later in this article, but for now let's start with the players we think are better than Crosby, in no particular order. Claude Giroux: Although Giroux's team is vastly inferior to Crosby's Penguins this season, he currently sits tied in terms of total points with Sid the Kid. Add to that fact that when the two men faced each other in the post season, Giroux not only dominated offensively for his team, but completely shut out Crosby in the series. Last year Giroux beat Crosby is some key areas as well, including face off percentage, game winning goals, power play goals, and more. Not only does Giroux pace Crosby in terms of performance depsite having a weaker team, Giroux also plays more on average each night, making him more valuable to his team.   Jonathan Toews. Really the only knock against Toews' throughout his entire career has been his issue with concussions, and we don't take that too seriously given the fact that he's already won at every level, including the Olympics, World Championships and of course the NHL. Tows isn't just your average great player either, despite having an impressive regular season year in and year out, his post season performances are what have earned Toews the moniker of Mr Serious, because when the game is on the line Jomathan Toews is the man you want with the puck on his stick. Toews had 9 goals and 8 assists in last years play offs compared to just 1 goal and 8 assists from Crosby. And if the rumors are true, even Crosby knows Toews is a better player, having asked Toews' permission to wear the C for team Canada.   Pavel Datsyuk: It's hard to believe, but literally every team in the NHL passed on this guy back in 1996, every team including the Detroit Red Wings. Today you could make the argument that in terms of pure talent, there is no better center in the entire National Hockey League. Datsyuk missed some time this season due to injury, however since his return he has been on a tear once again demonstrating exactly the kind of talent he is putting up 23 points in 22 games. It's not just his offensive talent that makes him a superstar either, many in the NHL believe Datsyuk to be one of, if not the very vest two way players in the game today. One only has to watch what this man does with the puck and there's no doubt, he leaves Crosby in the dust.   Patrice Bergeron: Like Datsyuk Bergeron is another player who can do it offensively, but is also well regarded as an incredible two way player. Bergeron has a Selke to his name, and when it comes to elite two way centers you'd be hard pressed to find someone better in the clutch, the man plays like he was sent from the future back through time to be a face off winning machine. What really sets him apart from Crosby however is his toughness, we aren't saying Crosby is soft(yet), but Bergeron might be the toughest guy in the league. He has played through everything from a broken rib, torn cartilage, separated shoulder, and a punctured lung, and those are just the injuries we know about. Move overt Crosby if I'm going to war I'm taking Bergeron and leaving you behind.   Connor McDavid: Ok so this one may be a little unfair considering McDavid has yet to play an NHL game, but there are facts to support the claim. McDavid was on pace to break every offensive record, including those previously set by Crosby before he injured his hand. How was he injured? He punched the boards after getting into a fight because he was sick of taking crap and decided to defend himself. Sound like Crosby to you? Nope. Many believe McDavid will be the next great one, and there's no question that at his age, he's better than Crosby was at that point in his career. He may not be better right now, but if we had to put money on it we're gambling on McDavid.   Sidney Crosby: We could go into a bunch of stats, but we thought this video would do a better job:
