Some sad news today out of Boston, unconfirmed reports are suggesting that the Boston Bruins have placed veteran Simon Gagne on unconditional waivers after he left the team due to a family tragedy. Gagne who was attempting a comeback with Boston this season, after having miss the entire 2013-2014 season, had his attempt cut short when his father passed away, something that clearly has had a profound impact on Gagne. A person close to the decision spoke under the condition of anonymity to The Associated Press, indicating that the Bruins are making the move with the intention of releasing Gagne. Given his history of injury and the amount of time he's spent away from the game over the last two years, this could very well mark the end of Simon Gagne's NHL career. Gagne has been a long time fan favorite especially in his native province of Quebec as well as the City of Brotherly Love where he won an NHL rookie of the year award with the Flyers. Fans will be sad to see him go, but we wish Gagne and his family nothing but the best wherever he ends up next.
