On Wednesday, the Belleville Senators were facing off against the Laval Rocket. The match ended with a 5-4 win for Belleville, but the scoreline certainly wasn't what caught the eye about the game.

Halfway through the 2nd period, the Senators' Alex Formenton entered the Laval zone. He and Rocket captain Xavier Ouellet battled for the puck in the Laval zone. Formenton crosschecked Ouellett who fell and flew into the boards.

A few of the rockets' players went after Formenton. As for Ouellett he was severely injured on the play and is expected to miss at least 2 weeks of action with a lower body injury.

Today, the AHL announced that Alex Formenton will be suspended for one game for his crosscheck on Ouellet.

Ouellet has 6 points so far this season in 16 games with the Rocket, while Formenton has 4 goals and 8 points in 13 games. Both players will be sorely missed by their organizations, Ouellet more so than Formenton since he will be out for a much longer period.

While some believe that a one game suspension is not enough, especially considering that the Rocket will be without one of their most important payers for an extended period, while others believe that the play was just a crosscheck that was punishable with a minor penalty or a major for boarding at most, but not a suspension.

Did Formenton's behaviour warrant the suspension? Whatever the conclusion, we wish Ouellet a speedy recovery.
