The Capitals superstar was filmed during a special event and the video is spreading fast online.
Alex Ovechkin showed a different kind of leadership on Wednesday, one that doesn’t involve goals, records or power plays. The Washington Capitals superstar spent time on the ice with children from the American Special Hockey Association (ASHA), joined by former Capital Mike Green and teammates Justin Sourdif and Ethen Frank.
One video from the session has been going viral as it captures Ovechkin in his element, having a blast while also showing genuine care for the kids. At one point, a young participant fell in front of the net and appeared to get injured. Ovechkin immediately checked on him, making sure the young player was okay, while also keeping the rest of the kids around him focused and excited about playing. His encouragement and concern were unmistakable.
It’s funny to think that during a real NHL game, no hockey player would worry about a little fall, or small scuffle, but here, it mattered to Ovi.
Watch it down here:
This isn’t new for Ovechkin: he has been an ASHA ambassador for over a decade. But seeing him interact one-on-one, helping a child up and sharing words of support, really highlights the human side of one of the NHL’s biggest stars. It’s clear that moments like this aren’t just a duty for him. They’re something he truly enjoys and values.
Whether on the ice scoring goals or on it helping kids, Ovechkin continues to show why he’s as respected for his heart as he is for his hockey skills.
