This is likely to go down as one of the most emotional nights of the 2017-2018 National Hockey League season.
On Monday Toronto Maple Leafs veteran forward Patrick Marleau made his return to the SAP Center and for the very first time in his over 1500 games NHL career he was not wearing a Sharks jersey.
As was expected the Sharks played a fitting tribute to Marleau, who holds several of the Sharks' franchise records, however it was the moment that came after the tribute that stole the show.
Marleau was treated to a roaring ovation from the San Jose Sharks faithful and the ovation seemed to stretch on for quite some time resulting in Marleau saluting the crowd multiple times throughout.
The emotion could clearly be seen on his face, and even long-time teammate Joe Thornton seemed emotional during the ceremony.
