There was a very controversial hit on Saturday night, one that left New York Islanders defenseman Johnny Boychuk in rough shape.

The New York Islanders welcomed the Philadelphia Flyers to Long Islanders on Saturday but unfortunately for the home town boys it was a bit of a rough game for them overall. The Islanders, who to be fair are comfortably in a playoff spot at this stage of the season, were unable to contain the Flyers on Saturday allowing the boys from the city of brotherly love to put up 5 goals on them while only answering with just two of their own.

The biggest blow to the Islanders perhaps came in the games final period when they were down by 4 goals. With just over 14 minutes left in the game the aforementioned Boychuk saw an opportunity to deliver a punishing hit to a member of the opposition and looked like he was about to do just that. The player Boychuk was looking to hit was Philadelphia Flyers star forward Jakub Voracek who appeared to be moving towards the loose puck along the end boards, but Voracek it seems also has eyes behind his back. The Flyers forward sensed Boychuk lining him up and although he did not have the puck on his stick at the time he braced himself for the incoming impact.

What transpired next looked liked something of a reverse hit on the part of Voracek, one that left Boychuk in bad shape down on the ice. The Flyers broadcast was quick to argue that Boychuk was initiating the contact on the play but it's clear that Voracek himself very much intended to deliver a hit of his own, this in spite of the fact that neither man had the puck on his stick at the time. Regardless of who you think was in the wrong here however there's no question that Boychuk got the worst of it.

It's unclear exactly what the issue for Boychuk was but he seemed to be grasping at his shoulder while he was down on the ice, writhing in pain, which would seemingly indicate that he suffered some form of shoulder injury.

In spite of the fact that Boychuk was hurt on the play, he was sure to let Voracek know that he will be back for revenge before leaving the ice.
