Winning Olympic gold is supposed to mean one thing: celebration. For Brady Tkachuk, it almost meant something else entirely.

On his podcast with brother Matthew Tkachuk, the Ottawa Senators captain shared how his post-gold medal plans took a sudden turn after Team USA defeated Canada in Milano Cortina.

“I got snatched after the game,” Brady said, recalling the moment. “I’m like ‘f**k yeah, let’s go have some beers and party,’ I get a tap on the shoulder. ‘Hello Brady, you’ve been selected for a drug test.’”

While some teammates were already heading toward the locker room festivities, Tkachuk found himself in a very different kind of pressure situation, trying to produce a sample so he could rejoin the party.

“The pressure of peeing so you can go celebrate,” he laughed. “Two other guys, they went right away… but I’m like I’m not missing a single moment.”

Desperate times called for desperate hydration.

Tkachuk said he downed five beers, three Powerades, and two waters in about 40 minutes. The test required 90 milliliters, or he’d have to wait and try again.

With the team bus departure looming, he finally decided to gamble.

“Ten minutes before the bus, I’m like, ‘F-it, I gotta gamble,’ and I did it. Thank God.”

Had he missed the bus and the celebration, he admits he would’ve been “sour.”

Gold medal secured. Test passed. Party saved.

Not exactly the Olympic moment fans saw coming, but very on-brand for Brady Tkachuk.
