With only two games left to go before the start of the regular season the Boston Bruins again trimmed down their roster yesterday with 4 more players being cut. In perhaps the least shocking move, goaltender Jeremy Smith was sent down to Providence where he will likely stay for the duration of the Bruins 2014-2015 season. With both Niklas Svedberg and Malcom Subban the clear favorites for the back up job, there was little to no hope of making the starting roster. Justin Florek and Alexander Khokhlachev where among the three forwards sent down to Providence along with Smith yet again not much of a surprise. Peter Chiarelli, with only three roster spots available for forwards after the signing of Reilly Smith, has to seriously consider players like Matt Fraser who is having a hell of a preseason, tryout Simon Gagne, first round pick David Pastrnak, Jordan Caron, Craig Cunningham and  Bobby Robbins. The real surprise however is forward Ryan Spooner being sent down. Spooner who had a highlight reel goal against the Montreal Canadians appeared to bring an element of speed that is lacking in the Bruins lineup. I assume they sent him down so he can get more ice time in the AHL as opposed to on the 3rd or 4th line of the Bruins but I'm still not entirely sure I agree.
