There has been an unexpected emergency involving the Toronto Marlies, the American Hockey League affiliate of the National Hockey League's Toronto Maple Leafs.

The Marlies are playing intraprovincial rivals the Belleville Senators on Sunday night but the game has been halted in the very first period due to an emergency. According to an official announcement from the Marlies, the Coca Cola Coliseum has been evacuated with 9:46 remaining in the first period after an alarm was activated.

The Toronto Fire department is on the scene and is currently investigating the situation at this time.

Stay tuned for more updates.

Update: The Marlies have confirmed that the alarm was a fire alarm but it appears to have been a false alarm. According to the Marlies, Toronto Fire have concluded their investigation and have found no emergency in the building which is good news for the fans in attendance.

Fans are reportedly being allowed back into the building and, barring the delay caused by the fire alarm, they will only have to wait for the players to have a 5 minute warm up before resuming play in the first period.

Although this was likely a major inconvenience for everyone involved, thankfully no one was injured.
