A vicious attack on a 17 year old defensemen leads to calls for a lifetime ban.
A terrifying incident from the Ontario Hockey League has led to calls for a lifetime ban to be levied against a very young hockey player.
On Friday night, during what was otherwise a normal game between the Oshawa Generals and the Brampton Steelheads, Generals defenseman Brady Blaseg was left with a very serious looking injury after he was on the receiving end of a vicious attack courtesy of Steelheads defenseman Luke Dragusica.
The incident would occur very late in the game with just over 3 minutes remaining in the game's third and final period after Blaseg drove Dragusica into the end boards with a hit. Dragusica obviously took exception to the hit and quickly bounced back up looking for the man who had delivered, but little did anyone know in that moment the intentions that were boiling up inside of Dragusica.
As he rose to his feet Dragusica immediately looked up and found the man he was looking for as Blaseg skated away from the play, and it was at that moment that Dragusica would do the unthinkable. With Blaseg facing away from him, Dragusica would skate up behind him and deliver a nasty-looking slash to the back and side of Blaseg's head, knocking him down to the ice in a heap.
Blaseg appeared to be in considerable distress on the ice after the blow and the damage that had been done could be seen on the ice with a pool of crimson forming below the Generals defenseman who was unable to rise to his feet.
Here is a look at the video replay:
There are now vocal calls for a serious suspension to be handed out to Luke Dragusic with some feeling he should be banned for an entire season, while others suggesting this type of incident should rise to the level of a lifetime ban,
Let me know what you think the outcome of this should be in the comments.
