Unfortunately it's likely not going to be the answer you want to hear. Despite the fact that Jonathan Bernier clearly distinguished himself as the #1 man between the pipes for the Leafs last season, head coach Randy Carlyle for the second straight season failed to name a clear #1 netminder for his club. Carlyle instead once again brought attention to his "1a and 1b" philosophy. For those of you who haven't blocked out the memory of the 2013-2014 season, you will clearly remember the controversy surrounding Carlyle's decision last year. To his credit Caryle was well aware that his comment would be taken with some trepidation, “Well, right now — and I’m going to say it — it’s 1A and 1B. The reality is, if you go to every team you have to have somebody that’s going to emerge and be your guy. Usually that happens over the course of the first 40 games. That’s what happened to us last year.” Currently the Leafs are in the middle of training camp where they will need to cut at least 5 forwards before the announce their official starting roster.
