Randy Carlyle is in tough, that Leafs fans is for certain. The Leafs have made no effort to disguise the fact that they are open to looking elsewhere for a coach. It is understandable why the Leafs fired practically every assistant coach, but kept Carlyle. They were courting Mike Babcock, who's future with the Red Wings is still up in the air. Had they successfully lured Babcock away from Detroit it would have made three different coaches in three seasons. Not a particularly good statistic to have. Now that the season is underway, there are some glaring problems with having Carlyle behind the bench. It starts with his contol of the locker room, as in he has none. It is pretty clear the players are not a fan of Carlyle's style and the players are simply not reacting to him. In Saturday night's game, Carlyle drew up a play for defenceman Jake Gardiner, who he has called out for a lack of effort this week. This was how Gardiner reacted: [iframe id="" mode="normal"] Not the best execution. Something needs to be done behind the Leafs bench and fast. Otherwise the Leafs may be on the outside of the playoff picture, looking in.
