McDavid gets hit so hard in the family jewels it lifts him up and off the ice.
Edmonton Oilers captain and star forward Connor McDavid was furious after this went down on Saturday night, and who can really blame him?
McDavid and the Oilers clashed with Pacific Division rivals the Vancouver Canucks on Saturday night and, as is often the case between these two teams, things got pretty heated throughout the course of the game.
When it comes to McDavid however there was clearly no moment more frustrating than one in the third period involving towering Canucks defenseman Tyler Myers. Roughly midway through the third, Myers would see fit to deliver a devastating looking low blow to McDavid, hitting McDavid so hard in the family jewels that it quite literally lifted him off the ice.
It was a pretty ugly situation with the incident happening away from the play on the ice, and even worse for McDavid it went completely unnoticed by the National Hockey League officials who were overseeing the game. Myers simply drove his stick up and in between McDavid's legs and appeared to do so with considerable force, with the only possible intent here being to injure his opponent in the process.
Much to his credit a frustrated McDavid went to retaliate but stopped himself short of doing so in an effort to avoid giving up a penalty late into the game. The Oilers would maintain their lead and eventually win by a score of 3-1, making that look like a good choice on McDavid's part.
McDavid did however go out of his way to inform the officials of what had just transpired, and I wouldn't be surprised to learn that Myers may get a call from NHL Player Safety given just how blatant this looked and given the fact that there was no call on the ice.
Here is a look at the painful looking replay:
