Controversial goal call in Game 3 between the Bruins and Canes.

The first period between the Boston Bruins and the Carolina Hurricanes has come to an end without either team finding the back of the net, however there was an incredibly close call in the final minutes of the period.

The Bruins have Jaroslav Halak in between the pipes this afternoon after a stunning announcement from number one goaltender Tuukka Rask earlier in the day and although Halak has been solid thus far he had a very close call late in the first period. The shot came all the way from the point courtesy of Hurricanes defenseman Jacob Slavin and it managed to find its way to Halak in spite of a ton of traffic in front of the Bruins net, traffic that no doubt obscured the vision of the aforementioned Halak. Despite that though Halak managed to get a piece of it, just enough to prevent the puck from going directly into the net but not enough to stop it's forward momentum.

To his credit Halak recovered very quickly and got his glove on the puck right as it bumped the post ever so slightly and appeared to be well on its way to crossing the goal line. I think we can assume that the puck may have even crossed the line, but the whistle was blown and the call on the ice was no goal. The officials on the ice reviewed the goal and came back with the same determination, the right call I believe given the video evidence that we have available from the replays. As I stated I believe that the puck likely did cross the line at some point, however Halak's glove came down to cover vision of that puck before it crossed the goal line and none of the angles available on the broadcast showed any clear evidence of the puck crossing the plane into the Bruins net.

Surprisingly Hurricanes head coach Rod Brind'amour decided not to challenge this one, although given his comments amount the officiating in this series thus far perhaps it should not come as a surprise.

Take a look for yourselves and let us know what you think in the comments.
