As a young boy walked down a red carpet to drop a puck for a hockey game, we were all undoubtedly thinking the same thing. How very sad for this poor boy. Dropping the puck at a hockey game should be a dream come true for a little boy, unfortunately this was not just any little boy. This was Marcus Cirillo, age 5. The son of the fallen Cpl. Nathan Cirillo, who was shot and killed on Wednesday while guarding the National War Memorial in Ottawa. And the dream of dropping a puck at a game was overshadowed by the nightmare that transpired this week. The game was chosen because Cpl. Cirillo’s cousin, Ryan Stepien, plays for the local Hamilton Jr. Bulldogs.“As Canadians we are very passionate people proud of our country, proud of our sport and this is how we show it,” said organizer Christopher Ogg. As proud Canadians we do display our pride in any way possible, and this tribute to a national hero was no different.
