A hit so big it even takes out the backup goalie on the bench.
File this one under spectacular.
While a lot of the attention in the hockey world is currently focused on the World Junior Ice Hockey Championship, there are still other games being played all across the world over the holidays. The National Hockey League will see their teams return to action today after their holiday break for example, while the Kontinental Hockey League has already started playing games again.
One KHL game in particular from this past week has made headlines around the hockey community with a video from that game going viral on social media.
In the video, former Los Angeles Kings draft pick Markus Phillips can be seen leveling Dynamo Minsk prospect forward Vitali Pinchuk and sending him up and over the boards and into the opposing bench. That would have been spectacular enough in its own right, but what happens when Pinchuk goes over the boards has been getting all of the attention.
Although the intent from Phillips was clearly to punish Pinchuk with a thunderous body check, he also ended up taking out his own teammate in the process as well. That's because when Pinchuk flew over the boards, the first thing he came into contact with was Philadelphia Flyers prospect Yegor Zavragin. Zavragin, whom the Flyers selected in the third round (87th overall) of the 2023 NHL Entry Draft, gets flattened by Pinchuk as he comes rocketing towards him like a missle making for a rather hilarious scene that you can just barely make out in the upper right corner of the video.
