
After reports surfaced on Thrusday suggesting the possibility of corporate sponsorship on World Cup of Hockey jerseys, many believed it was only a matter of time before the NHL itself adopted the practice. However today Gary Bettman said something th
“I’m in no rush to put advertising on our sweaters,”said Bettman. “I like the history and tradition and the way they look. I’ve repeatedly said we wouldn’t be the first and you’d probably have to bring me kicking and screaming.”Bettman would go on to explain his position, stating that he feels the history and the legacy attached to NHL team jerseys and logos far outweighs the potential financial benefits of sponshorship, and he;s not willing to tarnish that legacy.
“World Cup, international competition, I don’t know,”he said. “We may take a look at it. It might be a valuable opportunity. But the World Cup jerseys don’t have the same legacy, as far as I’m concerned, that our regular jerseys have. “It could happen in the World Cup. It might not.
