It seems we've been flooded by bad news the last 45 hrs, first Horton's condition worsening yesterday, then Bryan Murray's announcement that his death is all but inevitable today. However we finally have some good news to report, Hall of Fame announcer Rick Jeanneret is now cancer free and plans to return to his full time announcing duties as soon as he is healthy enough to do so. Jeanneret spoke to the Buffalo News about his progress and dropped this bombshell on fans:
"I’m going to do a period Saturday and no more than that,” said the 72-year-old Jeanneret. “I don’t know how my voice will hang on. There is only one way to find out. There is no way to practice it.”
That's right you will be able to hear him back in the booth as early as tomorrow night. He won't be making his full time return just yet as Jeanneret explained he will be testing his limitations and following the advice of doctors.
"The time seems right to slowly begin transitioning back to work,” Jeanneret said, in a release. “My doctors have told me I’m cancer free and I’m feeling well enough to get back in the booth, even if it’s only on a limited basis for the time being."
On on a personal note, despite never being a Buffalo Sabres fan, Jeanneret has long been in my mind one of the greatest NHL announcers of all time.  Here are some of the greatest calls of his career courtesy of Hockey Web Caster:
