Winter has arrived with a vengeance in the southern United States, and Texas is feeling it hard. A powerful winter storm has brought frigid temperatures and snow to the Lone Star State, with freeze warnings stretching as far south as the Gulf Coast and even Florida.

Rather than panic, some residents have taken advantage of the unusual weather in true hockey fashion. The NHL recently shared a video of fans lacing up their skates and taking to the streets to play pick-up hockey in the icy conditions.

The guy is the video is sporting a Minnesota Wild jersey, though it does hold the name of a former Dallas Stars defenseman Ryan Suter.

“The recent weather in Texas made conditions perfect for outdoor hockey,” the league captioned the post.

While the storm is causing headaches for many, the viral video is a reminder of hockey’s unique ability to bring people together and get them to smile in hard times, even in the most unexpected locations. For now, Texans are making the most of the freeze, and the NHL is here to celebrate every cool moment.
