The Canadiens goalie didn’t back down in a tense moment during Game 5 in Buffalo.
It was a difficult start for Montreal Canadiens goaltender Jakub Dobeš on Thursday night in Game 5 against the Buffalo Sabres, but as the game wore on, the young netminder appeared to settle in and grow more confident in the crease.
After an early stretch where Buffalo tested him heavily, Dobeš began to find his rhythm as Montreal built a 6–3 lead heading into the third period. With the scoreboard finally tilting in his team’s favour, the goaltender also made it clear he wasn’t going to be pushed around.
In one tense sequence near his crease, Dobeš was bumped and jostled by Sabres traffic, with Alex Tuch adding a jab at the netminder just after a whistle. Rather than letting it slide, Dobeš responded immediately, stepping in and throwing a punch to Tuch’s chest in a brief but heated exchange.
The situation escalated for a moment, but officials quickly intervened and no penalties were assessed on the play.
While the moment didn’t result in further discipline, it did underline the growing intensity of the series, and showed a different side of the Montreal goaltender. And Dobeš' teammates, especially Arber Xhekaj, loved it.
And so did I!
