David vs Goliath in the NHL on Sunday night!
They say it's not the size of the dog in the fight but instead the size of the fight in the dog, and it's men like Anaheim Ducks veteran forward Jeffrey Viel who prove that cliche is more than just an old saying.
On Sunday night, Viel and the Ducks faced off against the Vancouver Canucks with the Ducks trying to lock their spot in the Stanley Cup playoffs against the NHL's worst team for the 2025-26 regular season. Despite there being very little to play for on the part of the Canucks, tempers would boil over during the game's opening period when Viel would clash with Canucks enforcer Curtis Douglas of all people.
To say that there is a massive size discrepancy between these two men would be a massive understatement with Viel coming it at 6'1 and 214 lbs. While that makes Viel a relatively large man, he looked like a child standing next to Douglas who is a towering 6'9 and weighs in at a massive 242 lbs.
In spite of the massive size disadvantage however Viel showed that he was more than willing to engage, dropping the gloves and giving Douglas all that he could handle. It was a back and forth affair between these two men but Douglas would eventually drive Viel down to the ice, putting an end to what was a pretty good scrap despite the massive size difference.
Here it is again from another angle:
