Jon Cooper's true colors come out in one of his toughest moments
It was a devastating loss for the Canadians on Sunday when they failed to capture the Gold Medal against Team USA, losing in overtime by a score of 2-1. It is often in our darkest moments however that our true character can shine through.
It would very much appear that this was the case for Canadian head coach Jon Cooper on Sunday when cameras caught the longtime National Hockey League head coach showing a tremendous amount of class and grace in defeat. After the medal ceremony had wrapped up and the players were shuffling off the ice, cameras spotted Cooper who was hanging back from his team as if he was searching for something on the ice. Sure enough he would find what he was looking for in the form of Team USA forward Jake Guentzel.
Guentzel of course plays under Cooper for the Tampa Bay Lightning in the NHL and, in spite of the fact that Guentzel had just snatched away Cooper's Olympic dreams, Cooper was looking for him to congratulate him on his big Gold Medal win. It was a moment that, at least in my eyes, truly highlighted what kind of man Jon Cooper is and has only increased my already tremendous respect for the man.
You can see the video of his interaction with Guentzel just below:
