The first of many to be sure.

You knew it was coming, it was only a matter of time.

There has been a ton of hype surrounding young National Hockey League forward  Kaapo Kakko and rightfully so. The 18 year old New York Rangers forward was one of the most talked about players in the entire hockey world even prior to being drafted into the NHL due to his dynamic and awe-inspiring offensive skills and on Saturday he finally translated those skills into the first goal of his NHL career.

No doubt there are going to be plenty more of these to come down the line but the first one is always special, and thankfully for Kakko the first goal of his NHL career was a pretty beautiful one. Kakko and his Rangers faced off against the Edmonton Oilers in an afternoon game on Saturday and it was there that Kakko found the net for the first time as a member of the big leagues.

The goal game in the dying minutes of the game's very first period when he led a charge through the neutral zone and into Edmonton Oilers territory. Although he initially lost the puck while crossing the blue line it was quickly recovered by a teammate who fed it right back to him, and with Kakko one on one against Oilers veteran goaltender Mike Smith the young Finnish forward made no mistakes.

As I said this is no doubt the first of many, but this is likely a moment that Kakko and Rangers fans will remember for a very long time to come.
