Phil Kessel has always had a dangerous snapping wrist shot, but this season he is really giving goalies nightmares. What he was showing off on Wednesday night was his Weapon of Rask Destruction. What is it exactly? It is a new type of hockey stick, made to all of Phil Kessel's specifications. The results are beginning to show. Kessel and Brad Janson, who currently works with Easton and supplies sticks to some of the biggest stars in the game, came up with a stick called the Stealth CX. This stick is literally elevating Kessel's game to the next level. Now obviously it is not all the stick at work. Phil Kessel had one of the most dangerous wristers before the new technology. That what happens when you work on your shot since childhood (and have wrists that resemble the trunks of trees). However this new technology is only helping matters. What Easton created for Kessel this off season is a true one-piece stick with no hosel (the five-to-six inches long piece that is inserted into the shaft, then glued and sanded down and fuses the bade to the shaft). This has allowed Phil to keep his stick on the ice and literally bend the stick to release the puck even more quickly, with very little chance of it snapping the stick. Kessel's teammate James Van Riemsdyk put it best,“He’s got that smaller blade and whippy stick and he’s able to just use it like a slingshot,” van Riemsdyk said. “It’s the stick, but if you gave that stick to me, I wouldn’t be shooting it like that.” The combination of the new stick and Kessel's fast-twitch muscle memory is paying off for the Leafs this season. Goaltenders have no idea when that puck is coming off the stick before it is already in back of them. Just like last night: [iframe id="" mode="normal"]
