The Canadiens star defenseman limped back to the bench in overtime.
The Montreal Canadiens have been given a bit of a scare in the latter stages of Game 2 of the Eastern Conference Final on Saturday night, one that has left fans very concerned about the status of Canadiens star defenseman Lane Hutson.
The Canadiens lost Game 2 to the Hurricanes but what could potentially have an even bigger impact on this series was a hit in the overtime frame from Hurricanes forward Taylor Hall. Hall would attempt to come in for a big hit on Hutson but the Habs defenseman would quickly dash out of the way, getting most of his body out of the path of the oncoming Hall. That however would in turn result in Hutson's leg eating the brunt of the impact, an impact that sent the young blue liner down to the ice in a heap.
Hutson seemed furious following the hit, slamming his stick on the ice in frustration, but perhaps more concerning was the fact that he limped all the way back to the Canadiens bench. Once Hutson made it to the bench his body language wasn't good either, with Hutson slamming the bench door in frustration before hunching over in pain.
Hutson has been one of Montreal's most dynamic and consistent players in these Stanley Cup playoffs and he has the numbers to show it. The defenseman has a whopping 14 points in just 16 playoff games, including 2 goals and 12 assists. Hutson has also shown that he can hang with the best of them when it comes to his defense in these playoffs as well, all of which means his absence would be an imeasurable loss for the Canadiens in this series.
