Leon Draisaitl loses his cool and manhandles Elias Pettersson.

There has never been any love between the Vancouver Canucks and the Edmonton Oilers and we didn't have to wait until the regular season to see the animosity between these two teams already on full display.

On Friday night, the Oilers and Canucks clashed in what was a hotly contested preseason game that featured a ton of National Hockey League regulars on both sides of the ice. It was a back and forth affair that eventually required overtime to determine a winner, and you could tell that tensions were high despite this being merely an exhibition game in the grand scheme of things.

There was perhaps no moment that highlighted the animosity between these two teams better than a moment between Oilers star forward Leon Draisaitl and Canucks star forward Elias Pettersson, one in which Pettersson seemed to get the better of his opponent.

The two men lined up for a face off in the Oilers zone and, after both failed their initial attempts to swat at the puck, a bit of a physical battle would ensue as the two men fought for position. The puck would eventually get played, but not by either Draisaitl or Pettersson who remained locked in that battle, and that seemed to get to Draisaitl who completely lost his cool. Draisaitl would proceed to manhandle Pettersson, putting him in what looked like a full on headlock before ripping his helmet off and tossing it down the ice.

While Draisaitl clearly got the better of Pettersson in the physical altercation, Pettersson made no effort to fight back and as a result his opponent was awarded a penalty for his efforts.

The Oilers, who were already killing a penalty at the time, were left with a two man disadvantage as a result of Draisaitl losing his cool.
