Florida Panthers forward Matthew Tkachuk has some exciting news off the ice: he and his wife, Ellie, are expecting their first child. Tkachuk shared the announcement during the March 12 episode of the Hang Out with Sean Hannity podcast.

Taking a playful and heartfelt tone, Tkachuk revealed they aren’t planning to find out the baby’s sex, opting for an “old-school approach.” He hopes for a boy, explaining to his wife, who has only sisters, what youth hockey is like.

“Well, at some point, we’d definitely have to have a boy,” Tkachuk said. “I think I’m more excited for youth hockey one day than my current hockey right now. Honest to God, I can’t wait for the road trips… I can’t wait for the family to come. I can’t wait for the parents in the hotel lobby bar at night talking about the day… just the little things.”

Tkachuk and Ellie’s love story has moved quickly. They went public back in 2022, got engaged in the spring of 2024, and married on July 19, 2025, shortly after Matthew helped the Panthers secure back-to-back Stanley Cups.

With the couple now preparing to welcome their first child, Tkachuk is looking forward to a new kind of accomplishment, parenthood, and the family moments that come with it.

Fans have been commenting on the post, sharing their congratulations to the couple, but also having some chirps for Matthew, who might have to grow up a little more, in time for the first diaper change!
