After 14 consecutive seasons without a playoff appearance, it didn't take long for frustration to begin to show in Buffalo.

On Saturday night, the Buffalo Sabres were outclassed by Atlantic Division rivals the Boston Bruins, losing by a score of 3-1 and bringing their regular season record to a concerning looking 0-2. While you could easily brush it off as just 2 games in the grand scheme of things, the comments from Sabres head coach Lindy Ruff following the conclusion of that game were definitely a cause for concern.

Ruff, who is a veteran of over 2500 National Hockey League games as a player and coach, was disgusted by his team's performance on Saturday and went out of his way to let members of the media know just how he was feeling. When asked what changes he could have made to improve the team's chances of winning, Ruff instead buried his own players for the lackluster effort they put out on the ice.

"We have to raise our level of compete," said a very frustrated sounding Ruff. "I thought our compete was terrible. Worst compete, compete and skating and moving feet that I've seen. We gotta compete."

Ruff would reiterate again just how underwhelmed he was by the effort his team put out during their second game of the regular season.

"We didn't move our feet, we didn't win races to the puck," said Ruff. "At the start of a game when everybody has energy it's hard hockey and we lost the battle."

Ruff believes his team is too concerned with trying to be cute out on the ice, and instead believes that they need to put their heads down and just play hard hockey.

"We're too much on the fancy side," said Ruff. "Until we put the boots on and go to work and realize the only way we're gonna win hockey games is to outwork the other team."

It is definitely not the start the Buffalo Sabres would have wanted to their season, and it seems to already be taking a toll on their head coach.
