Adam Sykora gets a rough welcome in just his 3rd NHL game.
Full credit to New York Rangers rookie forward Adam Sykora for having the courage to step up to the challenge on Sunday, but the youngster may have bitten off more than he can chew.
On Sunday Sykora and the Rangers faced off against the Florida Panthers and it would be late in the game's opening period that Sykora would find himself in unfamiliar waters. With roughly 30 seconds left to go on the game clock, Sykora would get into a tussle with the much bigger and much more experienced Luke Kunin, a grizzled National Hockey League veteran.
Much to his credit however Sykora would refuse to back down from Kunin, but unfortunately at 5'10 and 180 lbs he was no match for the 6'0 200 lbs Kunin who has nearly 500 games of experience in the NHL.
The end result was Kunin pummeling the youngster, raining down blows on top of him as he collapsed down to the ice.
While it wasn't a great showing for Sykora you do have to factor in his lack of experience in the NHL as well as his lack of experience when it comes to dropping the gloves on the ice. In fact, it sounds like this may have been Sykora's first professional hockey fight of any kind.
