The Tampa Bay Lightning were furious after this one.

On Saturday night, as the Lightning faced off against the Columbus Blue Jackets, the National Hockey League's undisputed heavyweight champion, Blue Jackets forward Mathieu Olivier, once again made his presence felt.

Olivier, who has become one of the most feared men in the entire National Hockey League due to his devastatingly effective fighting style, brought his physical presence to bear late in the game's opening period when he completely flattened Lightning defenseman Erik Cernak with a huge hit along the end boards.

Cernak's body was slammed hard into the boards and he would remain down on the ice for several moments following the impact, with the Lightning livid on the bench over what they felt was an illegal hit.

Here is a look at the replay:

The officials on the ice however determined that there had been no penalty on the play, this in spite of the fact that the Lightning appeared to feel it should have been a major. While it is clear that Cernak was hit from behind, he did drastically change the position of his body just prior to being hit which significantly altered the outcome of the play.

I suspect that Cernak turning his body at the last moment played a significant factor in the officials decision, but that will do nothing to appease the Lightning.

Did they make the right call? Let me know your thoughts in the comments.
