McDavid takes a hit in season opener and big bad Lucic comes to the rescue.

It wasn't the most entertaining fight you're going to see in the National Hockey League but there was no doubt as to it's purpose.

Newly acquired Edmonton Oilers forward Milan Lucic sent a very clear message to the rest of the NHL on Wednesday night when he immediately went after Calgvary's Deryk Engelland following his hit on Oilers superstar Connor McDavid.

There was no ill-intent from Engelland and it wasn't a dirty hit by any stretch of the imagination, but it did however resemble the hit that led to McDavid's significant injury last season and that may have sparked Lucic's fury.

More than likely however Lucic simply wanted to make it clear that any physicality with McDavid would result in him returning the favor tenfold.
