That is no way to treat a former teammate.

On Monday night, during a game between the Columbus Blue Jackets and New Jersey Devils, Blue Jackets forward Miles Wood was left leaking all over the ice after he was on the receiving end of a nasty cut from his former teammate, Devils defenseman Dougie Hamilton.

Wood was busted open after a scramble in front of the net resulted in Hamilton giving him a hard whack in the face with his stick, one that appeared to go up and under Wood's visor. Although the broadcast did suggest that Hamilton was trying to play the puck at the time, it really doesn't look like the puck was ever in range of his stick based on the video replay.

Instead it looks like Hamilton was trying to obstruct Wood's path to the puck and lost control of his stick, slamming into Wood's face which unfortunately had more give than Hamilton's stick. Here's a look at the video replay:

Wood was not only left with a terrible looking gash right near his eye, but he was also leaking all over the ice with a thick streak of crimson running down the side of his face. Making things even worse, Wood appeared to be shaken up the play and struggled to get back to his feet before eventually making his way off the ice.

Here you can see a close up of Wood himself as he deals with the shock of what had just transpired.

Wood seemed to be in complete disbelief at what had just transpired, even gesturing at the trainer in disbelief as he approached him with a towel to try and offer assistance with the cut near Wood's eye.

Thankfully it seems as though Wood's eye itself avoided taking any of the damage, a silver lining to this ugly scenario if you're looking for one.

Hopefully Wood is going to be ok, but he has yet to return to the game.
