Must see: Ovechkin drops referee with a shot to the head!

When you've got a player like Washington Capitals captain Alex Ovechkin firing shots on the ice you always have to be aware of your surroundings.

Unfortunately for referee Garrett Rank there isn't likely a whole lot he could have done to avoid taking a hard shot off the side of the head on Wednesday night after a shot from the aforementioned Ovechkin went wild.

After Ovechkin fired the rocket it took a very strange bounce off the side of the boards and caught Rank in the head sending him crashing to the ice. Despite the fact that he appeared to be initially be in considerable pain, Rank showed the kind of great one comes to expect in the game of hockey when he bounced back up to his feet and even putting on a smile for the cameras.
