Laying a hit on speedy Colorado Avalanche forward Nathan MacKinnon is difficult at the best of times but as it turns out even when you do line him up there's often going to be a world of hurt waiting for you on the other end. This is a lesson that Phoenix Coyotes defenseman Jordan Oesterle learned the hard way on Saturday in spite of the fact that his team picked up the win.

Oesterle and his Coyotes were hanging on to an improbable 2 - 1 lead in the third period against MacKinnon and the Avs when he saw his opportunity to lay a punishing hit on the Avalanche star. Unfortunately for Oesterle however it appears as though MaCKinnon read the play the whole way and instead of being the victim of a a big hit it was he who turned out to be the victimizer. MacKinnon squared himself up and raised his shoulder, acting like a veritable brick wall, and flattened Oesterle with a huge reverse hit that would have been one of the highlights of the period if not for the show put on by Coyotes goaltender Darcy Kuemper.

If you have not seen the hit or if you just want to watch it again, you can check out the slow motion replay below.
