Brad Marchand delivers a nasty low blow and it's all caught on camera.
Over the years Florida Panthers star forward Brad Marchand has earned a veritable army of haters for one reason or another, and as a result every aspect of his game is often thrown under the microscope as fans and pundits try to analyze the ways in which Marchand tries to get an edge over his opponents.
On Friday night, Marchand was up to his old tricks when he and the Panthers faced off against the Carolina Hurricanes. The Panthers were down in the game and it would be a cheap shot from Marchand that would help get the Panthers back into the game when, during a scramble in front of the net, Marchand took Hurricanes goaltender Brandon Bussi out of the play with a rather nasty looking low blow.
It looked pretty bad in real time, but it was hard to gauge Marchand's intent with the limited replay footage we had available:
A new video angle however I believe has removed all doubt about Marchand's intent, with Spectrum 1 News Director Mike Solarte taking to social media to provide a breakdown of an overhead video angle that makes it hard to argue in Marchand's defense. Based on the video angle courtesy of Solarte it does look as though the puck was never the target of Marchand's stick, and instead it looks like a big windup and a swing right into Bussi's nether region.
Here is a look at the new video angle:
Did one of the NHL's most notorious offenders get away with another one? Or was this merely an accident? Let me know your thoughts in the comments.
