According to Sportnet's Damien Cox, Clarke McArthur of the Ottawa Senators will face no disciplinary action for his cheap shot on Flames Lance Bouma. It comes as little surprise to most, McArthur is not known as a dirty player, having only been suspended once way back in 2011. If Bouma had been injured it may have been a different story, but Bouma shrugged off the hit almost immediately. The problem I have with this ruling is that it was obviously a very deliberate shot to the head, if the NHL is going to implement a rule to protect players this is exactly the kind of scenario it should be used for. There is no doubt in anyone's mind that MacArthur intended to hit Bouma in the head, even Ottawa fans tore into him after the game. Here's the hit:
