For those of us who follow hockey religiously the name Travis Hamonic is not an unfamiliar one, but the average NHL fan has no idea who the Islander's defenseman really is. In fact he's probably more well known for the gap in his two front teeth, the gap where one of those teeth has gone M.I.A, than he is for being an outstanding NHL defenseman. ESPN featured Hamonic on in their E:60 series, they touch on the tragic events that led to the death of his father when he was only 10 years of age, and the struggles he lived as a result of that tragedy. Today Hamonic donates his time to helping kids who have suffered the loss of a parent at a young age like he did, inviting them to Islander's games and speding quality time with them after the fact. Hamonic even goes so far as to give out his personal e-mail to these children, in case they need to talk to someone who has experienced what they are going through, something Hamonic admits he wishes he would have had. Truly an NHL player worthy of everyone's respect.
