Two of the league’s toughest fighters went toe-to-toe in a wild scrap
Sometimes, you can feel it coming, and this one didn’t disappoint.
Two of the NHL’s toughest enforcers, Carolina Hurricanes’ Nicolas Deslauriers and Columbus Blue Jackets’ Mathieu Olivier, went toe-to-toe in what looked like a pre-arranged heavyweight bout that had everyone’s attention from the opening puck drop.
After what appeared to be an understanding during warmups, the gloves came off early, and from there, it was pure chaos. Both players wasted no time throwing massive haymakers, each landing heavy shots in a back-and-forth exchange that had the crowd buzzing.
Olivier took the worst of the damage visually, finishing the fight with a cut on his left cheek and blood on his face. But make no mistake, he gave just as much as he got. Deslauriers answered with bombs of his own, and neither man backed down for a second.
It was the kind of tilt hockey fans live for: two heavyweights, no hesitation, but no clear winner. If anything, this one felt like a draw, just two tough guys earning each other’s respect the old-school way.
And that respect was clear at the end. Smiles, shoulder taps, and a mutual acknowledgment of the battle they had just gone through.
In a league where fighting is becoming less frequent, moments like this still remind everyone that there’s nothing quite like a classic heavyweight showdown.
